Lunch & Learn Webinar: Building an effective MTSS to support student wellness 

Partners MREA and EmpowerU are excited to welcome you to this webinar. Madelia Public School District faces many of the challenges other small rural school districts are currently struggling to solve. The number of students with mental health barriers continues to rise with limited resources and staff to address the need. Come learn about Madelia’s journey to build an effective MTSS that expands their current staffs’ capacity to support struggling students.

Presenter: Shelly A. Bauer, EdS

Superintendent, Madelia 

 

Mrs. Shelly Bauer has been serving as the Superintendent for the Madelia Public School District since July of 2021. Prior to serving as superintendent, she served as a principal at both the high school and elementary levels for a combined 22 years. In addition, has taught upper elementary and high school for 11 years.

She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and Psychology, Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Minnesota State University, Mankato.  Mrs. Bauer is a Minnesota Educational Policy Fellow.

Mrs. Bauer looks for creative, innovative, and equitable ways to remove barriers for all learners.

Presenter: Meghan Ward

Counselor

Mrs. Meghan Ward is a proud Madelia native and graduate of Madelia High School. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Minnesota and a Master's Degree in Professional School Counseling from Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Mrs. Ward has worked as a School Counselor for the last 11 years, 10 of which have been serving students and families in Madelia, primarily at Madelia High School. She thoroughly enjoys supporting all students to explore their interests and abilities and learn the social and emotional skills needed to be successful, contributing members of society.

Mrs. Ward enjoys creative problem solving, advocating for others and collaboration to foster student success.

Prior to her role at EmpowerU, Jan worked as a special educator and technology coach. She earned her Master's degree in special education from Vanderbilt University, studying RtI and progress monitoring under pioneers in the field, Drs. Doug and Lynn Fuchs. Her passion is supporting educators in improving outcomes for students and she is dedicated to the mission of using data to accelerate learning for all students, especially those most at-risk.
