Review key talking points with students
  • EmpowerU is all about you -- a chance for you to work on yourself and meet your goals.
  • It’s an opportunity to improve your wellbeing, confidence and motivation.
  • You will learn and apply skills that will help you every day - things like – how to control negative thoughts, manage stress and keep going when things get difficult!
  • These are key skills that will help you feel better and do better - in school and in life!
  • You'll have your own online EmpowerU Coach (a real person!) supporting you during the course via text right in the portal.
  • Your coach will message you through the EmpowerU portal after every lesson. Their job is to cheer you on and give you daily feedback and encouragement.
  • If your high school offers EmpowerU as an elective, you will earn credit—this is super helpful for completion!

Discuss course expectations
  • Students will complete short online lessons – typically 2-3/week over 6-8 weeks (condensed course) or 10–12 weeks (full course).
  • Students will be expected to give EmpowerU time and attention -like any other course work.
  • Each student’s EmpowerU coach will provide encouragement via asynchronous messaging as they complete each lesson. The coaches will grade students’ lessons based on completion and it is expected that they answer the coach back in the portal.
  • On their start date, students will receive an email from their EmpowerU coach. The email will come to their school email address (check spam), and they should follow the steps to get started.

1. Make a plan with your student

Identify when and where your student will complete their 2-3 EmpowerU lessons each week.

Lessons are short and intended to be completed independently.

Students can utilize lunch, advisory, intervention, or free time.

Good locations for lesson completion include the media center, nurse's office or another place where attendance is taken.

Map out a schedule for lesson completion to help the student stay on track. Write it down and agree.

Print this "My EmpowerU Plan" card and share the plan with teachers.

2. Assist with first lesson, if needed
If the student is in elementary or middle school, help them login to EmpowerU for the first time and get them started. Be available to help with any questions for the first lesson and support them in responding to their coach's first feedback. After that, students should complete lessons independently.
3. Determine student support needs

EmpowerU provides accessibility features for students:

Speech to text: helps students answer questions by allowing them to record their answers and convert them to text.

Text to speech: helps students who may need assistance with reading by playing the text at a push of a button.

Language translation: students can pick their preferred language. If you don’t see one available, please reach out to success@empoweru.education

You can request these accommodations via the EmpowerU portal when enrolling students.

4. Schedule check-in and make it fun!

Set a time to check in to see how progress is going. Include something fun to help motivate the student (i.e. a cup of tea, a game they like to play, calling them down during a specific time of day). Use this time to check in and connect, and ask them how things are going in EmpowerU!

A Reminder – Let us do the heavy lifting! This course was designed for the student to complete independently – at their grade level with support from EmpowerU. They can do it. We recommend that students do not complete their lessons in your office with you – our goal is to lighten your load and build capacity for your to support more students. It works!
